All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi (AIIMS Delhi) is a medical college and medical research public university. AIMS was established in 1956 and operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.Though it is not a Delhi Government Hospital but omitting it will make this list incomplete.

Safdarjang Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital having 1600 beds and is located on the Ring Road in New Delhi. You may feel surprised to know it is one of the largest Government hospitals of our country.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital -is a 657-bed multi-speciality hospital situated in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.Though it is not a government hospital, not mentioning it will not be right in author’s opinion. It provides excellent medical services to patients from all over Southeast Asia.The hospital’s Minimal Access Surgery department was the first such unit in South Asia.

Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital is a 1,500 bed hospital and is affiliated to and acts as the teaching hospital of University College of Medical Sciences. It is the first Delhi Government tertiary care hospital in Trans-Yamuna region, catering to the East Delhi population, as well as patients from adjoining states.

Death and Dying

The theme song to the movie Flashdance was playing on the radio. I view Flashdance as one of the cheesiest movies of the 1980s, but the retelling of this story would move my mom to tears. MomShe also thought that Dr. Zhivago was one of the most romantic movies of all time; I however, missed the romanticism. It must have been Omar Sharif’s brooding good looks that was the appeal. Flashes of these memories are with me quite a bit as I often think of my mom who passed away a little over two months ago.
