The same urban scenario may represent two very different things depending on who is walking through it. A passerby without mobility problems will hardly notice the obstacles: he will go up and down stairs, save curbs and surround obstructions without diverting their attention. How to Improve Mental Wellbeing in Pandemic

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is impacting all our lives, and the usual advice might not quite apply. We know that some ideas for looking after yourself may feel unrealistic right now. And some treatment and support options will be harder to access or may be unavailable for a while.

Mental wellbeing describes your mental state – how you are feeling and how well you can cope with day-to-day life.

Our mental wellbeing is dynamic. It can change from moment to moment, day to day, month to month or year to year.

If you have good mental wellbeing you are able to:

  • feel relatively confident in yourself and have positive self-esteem
  • feel and express a range of emotions
  • build and maintain good relationships with others
  • feel engaged with the world around you
  • live and work productively
  • cope with the stresses of daily life
  • adapt and manage in times of change and uncertainty

These are some ideas to stay mentally well and develop your ability to cope with the up and downs of life:

  • Think about what is affecting your wellbeing
  • Build positive relationships
  • Take time for yourself
  • Look after your mental health
  • Look after your physical health
  • Ask for help if you need it

Have a Goal

Having a goal worth chasing helps in maintaining your mental well being.

Spread What You Know

  • Write a Book
  • Write a Manual

Help Less Fortunate

As with most colleges and universities, all classes will be taught remotely. Even the libraries—the heartbeat of the University—are closed for “the indefinite future.” This has never happened since the University was founded in 1890.

Yesterday we all received an email from President Robert Zimmer—yes, the man who let me tend the ducks—and I found it heartening because of its emphasis on free expression and open discourse, even in these parlous times. I don’t think I’m doing a Wikileaks thing by reproducing Zimmer’s email below. Emphases are mine.
