    Can you conclude from studying the Eastern Sahara, that the entire desert is shrinking? Dr. Kröpelin’s conclusions contradict other observations that show the desert covers 10% more land today than it did when records began around 1920. How does he explain what has happened to Lake Chad? In West Africa, the Sahara growing at a rate of 48 kilometres per year. The conflicts in ECOWAS Sahel states is attributed to desertification which is affecting food security.
