Urban Growth and Urbanisation: The Distinction, Concept and Similarities

Urban growth can refer to any type of growth of the urban environment.

  • Population 

Cities Generally have a big population though it is not a prerequisite for an urban area.

  • Land Area

Most of the cities are big sprawling settlements.

With diversifying economy the land use of the city changes and intesifies.

Cities grow because societies are better organised than the individuals that make them. A society needs places to operate, manifest, recognise, and reproduce. The city is the place of society, opportunity, exchange and, therefore, of knowledge. It is a space to belong.Through its expansion, over time, the city from limited conurbation has become a region, then a whole territory. Since long time, the historical clear separation between Urbs and Orbs, between the city and “the everything else”, has been outmoded. Urban areas work as a fabric, the urban fabric is the physical form of towns and cities. Like textiles, urban fabric comes in many different types and weaves. There is a rapid growth in urban population which Calls for Innovative Solutions
