ReSpace: Designing with Salvaged Materials

You may have heard of Habitat for Humanity’s ReStores that sell salvaged building materials and fixtures. Some stores even offer deconstruction programs with the ability to disassemble entire houses and save as much re-usable material as possible. But, have you heard of Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, North Carolina’s ReSpace design competition? The challenge was to “design a small, unique, and transportable structure with reuse materials at the core, from concept to construction.” The Grand Prize Winning design will be constructed in a 48-hour build by Habitat for Humanity (HfH) volunteers and then sold to benefit the local HfH program. This program has the ability to raise awareness about the beauty of re-use materials and showcase some very creative designs. Earthquake shakes North India, New Delhi,NOIDA:Parellel Quake in Indonesia

An earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale, shook entire North India and especially the NCR region, i.e. New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad. The tremor was felt at around 1:10 pm on Monday, Mar 5.The epicentre of earthquake was Bahadurgarh in Haryana. The tremor was also felt in other parts of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow. Several places in Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh also experienced the tremor which lasted for more than 10 seconds.However, no reports on casualty or damages have been reported yet. Meanwhile, sources informed that a parallel earthquake with 5.1 magnitude was reported in Indonesia, Sumatra island. The tremor in the island was felt at around 12:15 pm (Indian time) on Monday.

Belarusian Satellite in Profit

New space program envisages further development of the remote sensing system.Sometimes it is money invested for future and sometimes gives instant profits. As the new Belarusian satellite is a profit making venture.

The  contracts the Belarusian companies have taken after launching the Belarusian satellite  exceeds the cost of creating the space system for the remote sensing of the Earth by six times. It is great news for the countries joining the space club and for the industries associated.

Work Update

The  satellite has been involved in research in Antarctica. The information was released by head of the South Pole expedition Aleksei Gaidashov on 16 April.

Belarusian  explorers were taking measurements when the satellite was passed over Antarctica. Capabilities of the Belarusian satellite are of great interest for researching Antarctica.

Belarus soon plans to set up its own station in Antarctica. The station’s possible environmental impact has been estimated.
