Map Showing Countries Which Faced Severe Drought

The most severe droughts  are associated with prolonged shortages of water and result in widespread crop and other vegetation losses. In this map, the region affected the most is shaded in dark depending on the vegetation stress faced. The image shows the number of weeks that areas across the globe have experienced exceptional drought vegetation stress, dating back to 1981 when NOAA’s satellites first began monitoring vegetation patterns. Areas above 60 degrees latitude and desert locations have been omitted from the analysis.

PSLV C-23 launched with 5 satellites Including Spot 7

India  successfully launched five foreign satellites from four countries on board PSLV-C23 rocket which placed them in orbit.

Besides its primary payload of 714 kg French Earth Observation Satellite SPOT-7, PSLV C23 carried and placed in orbit 14 kg AISAT of Germany, NLS7.1 (CAN-X4) and NLS7.2 (CAN-X5) of Canada each weighing 15 kg and the 7 kg VELOX-1 of Singapore.

This Neo Brutalism

The recent revival of media interest in ‘Brutalism’, a 20th century architectural style mostly associated with grey, chunky concrete office blocks, high rises and municipal buildings, is an interesting example of the ways that urban fashion can change dramatically, with buildings once seen as futuristic in terms of design and materiality becoming reviled and in many cases demolished, before in time being re-evaluated and treated nostalgically.

Of course, this trajectory reflects to some extent Glasgow’s Sighthill stone circle, as the recent article (which I co-wrote) in British Archaeology magazine suggests, but in this post I would like to explore a range of other connections, which will include Stonehenge and its concrete doppelgangers, 1970s artworks in the Scottish new town of Livingston and an architectural doctrine adopted by the Nazis.

But let’s start with the brutal and unforgiving form of Stonehenge.
