Food for Thought.

The Stein Auditorium at India Habitat Centre is half empty and it’s the hour in which conference goers are eager for lunch to be served. We are attending the CONNECTKaro 2015, an annual and global event on sustainable transport and urban development organised by EMBARQ and WRI India. An esteemed Brazilian politician is speaking about his city’s sustainable transport strategies. The audience is politely bored. He finishes and there is some scattered applause and he leaves the stage.

At that moment, something changes in the air. The hall is full in a matter of minutes, lunch is forgotten and Amit Bhatt from EMBARQ is introducing Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to speak on his vision for Delhi. Mr Sisodia addresses the audience in Hindi, picking up issues important for urban development (a portfolio he currently holds, among many) and specifically for transportation which is the theme of the event…

Ambedkar’s Ideology – Religious Nationalism and Indian Constitution: Ram Puniyani

Nivedita Menon's avatarKAFILA - COLLECTIVE EXPLORATIONS SINCE 2006

Guest Post by RAM PUNYANI

In order to gain larger legitimacy, RSS has been making claims of sorts. One of that which was made few months back was that Gandhi was impressed by functioning of RSS. Now on the heels of that comes another distortion that Ambedkar believed in Sangh ideology (Feb 15, 2015). This was stated recently by RSS Sarsanghchalak, Mohan Bhagwat. There cannot be bigger contrasts between the ideology of Ambedkar and RSS. Ambedkar was for Indian Nationalism, Secularism and social justice while the RSS ideology is based on two major pillars. One is the Brahmanic interpretation of Hinduism and second is the concept of Hindu nationalism, Hindu Rashtra.

Where does Ambedkar stand as for as ideology of Hinduism is concerned? He called Hinduism as Brahminic theology. We also understand that Brahmanism has been the dominant tendency within Hinduism. He realized that this prevalent version of Hinduism is…

Historical Region: A Geographical Concept Beyond Nationalities

Regions or pays as Vidal de la Blache called them are human constructs in the study of Geography and help us look at spatial extents. Regions are worlds within worlds.

Historical regions are  regions  delimited  for studying  the social development of period-specific cultures without any reference to contemporary political, economic or social organisations.

The real idea behind this type of  delimitation is that older political and mental structures remain in place which exercise greater influence on the spatial social identity of individuals than is understood by the today’s world, bound to and often blinded by its own worldview(e.g. the focus on the nation-state).

Definitions of regions vary to  a great extent. Regions can include macroregions such as Europe, territories of traditional states or smaller micro-regional areas.

A geographic proximity is the  precondition for the emergence of a region. In Europe, the regional identities are  derived from the Migration Period.

Some regions( rather the name of the region) are entirely invented, such as the Middle East in 1902 by a military strategist and political geographer,  Alfred Thayer Mahan, to refer to the area of the Persian Gulf.

Clean Your Untidy Computer and Increase Productivity

Rick sent it to me and I found it useful, so thought of sharing it with my community, that is you ALL. Here it is.Hope, it will be useful.

For some people, just the thought of cleaning out your computer’s files can cause anxiety. A cluttered desktop can make the task of finding important documents inefficient and time-consuming, but compiling a couple year’s worth of files can be a harrowing process for those who are not naturally organized.

Fortunately, a good plan of attack can ease those jitters and start you off on the right foot. This Clean Computer Calendar provided by SingleHop, an industry leader in cloud computing, is a three-week plan designed to help re-organize your files and remove old documents that are wasting valuable space on your hard drive.

This calendar is broken up into three stages: Organization, Prioritization, and Backup. The first stage focuses on compiling all of the files on your computer and organizing them into folder system that you’ll stick with. The second stage – Prioritization – is about prioritizing your files and placing anything you don’t need immediately into an archivable folder. Backup is the final stage that involves taking all of the files that you don’t need daily and moving them onto a separate drive (through either an external hard drive or dedicated private cloud) to free up extra space on your computer.

The most effective way to keep your computer clean is to prevent new clutter from forming, so remember to re-evaluate your files every few months to ensure that all of your documents are in their proper folders. By maintaining organized folders and archiving anything that doesn’t need to be accessed, you will not only increase your computer speed but also your overall productivity.
