Global Atlas for Solar and Wind

In January 2013 (13-14) the Global Atlas for Solar and Wind was launched during the third session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Developed by the Research Center for Renewable Energy Mapping and Assessment (ReCREMA) at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in the United Arab Emirates, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Germany, The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the United States and MINES ParisTech in France, the Global Atlas is the largest ever initiative undertaken to assess renewable energy potential on a global scale. The initiative is coordinated by IRENA, and involves 39 countries. It provides high-quality resource maps from leading technical institutes worldwide, and simplified models for evaluating technical potential.
